My alter-ego The Kev has finished album number four. Titled ‘You Can’t Say Anything These Days’, it is my sixth album to be released since 2020, including two Chinese-language albums. The launch night will be held at The Old Monkey in Manchester on September 20th, 2025.
It contains songs that have a proven track record of bringing the house down on Manchester’s music scene, including ‘The FVSDA’, ‘You’re Amazing’, and ‘You Can’t Say Anything These Days’. The album is available for free as a YouTube playlist, is available for pre-order on all major streaming platforms (release date Friday April 25th), and for purchase on Bandcamp.
In an interview with Stereo Stickman, I explained the importance of maintaining maximum ambition when it comes to creativity and quality, and minimum ambition when it comes to fame and fortune. I also gave an interview to New York-based Z-Radio, whose host Zach Feldman described the album as 'a cocktail of irony, commentary and musical craftsmanship'.
Here are some Google Reviews of The Kev
The songs
Talking about the Kev – a homage to ‘Theme from Shaft’ by Isaac Hayes
The FVSDA – The Kev tries to give back to society but ends up traumatising a bunch of abuse victims
You Can’t Say Anything These Days – Bemoans encroachments on free speech, and also tests whether they actually exist
1000 Years – shows the extent to which The Kev has moved on from performing such lowbrow songs as ‘Sucked off a Bloke’
You’re Amazing – is about honouring our ancestors, marvelling at the miracle of life, and being castrated by a crocodile
The Music of My Youth – is about nostalgia for the music one grew up with, specifically music about busting a cap up bitches’ asses
What a Piece of Work Is Man – addresses the crisis of masculinity, reminiscing about the beaches of Normandy and sodomy
Let’s Be You and Me –celebrates sexual freedom and what happens when we have a teensy bit too much of it
Old Days –answers the question, what would ‘Glory Days’ have sounded like if Bruce Springsteen had been a millennial from Manchester?
We’re All Just Sinners – praises the Lord, while also insulting every religion. But if God didn’t have a sense of humour, then he would have made blaspheme a sin
